Objective: To determine the prevalence and risk factors associated with Post- Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS) in survivors of a non-humanized intensive care unit (ICU), and to identify the potentially affected domains.
Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional exploratory study was conducted in a private hospital in northern Mexico between April and September 2024. Adult patients aged ≥18 years with a minimum ICU stay of five days were recruited, along with their primary caregivers. Assessments were performed approximately two weeks after hospital discharge. Validated instruments were used to evaluate cognitive, psychological, physical, and quality-of-life domains, including the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Medical Research Council (MRC) Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Impact of Event Scale–Revised (IES-R), and the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire. Relevant demographic and clinical variables were collected. Statistical analysis included nonparametric tests and bivariate associations, with a significance level of p < 0.05.
