During the COVID-19 pandemic, furniture demand in Nuevo Leon, Mexico experienced a substantial increase, primarily driven by the urgent need to adapt domestic environments to accommodate remote work and study. This accelerated demand led to the proliferation of low-cost, short-lived furniture, which in turn generated a considerable environmental impact due to the massive disposal of non-recyclable products. In response to this challenge, sustainable furniture design has emerged as a critical alternative, fostering practices that emphasize durability, human well-being, and environmental responsibility. Within this framework, the revival of vernacular techniques and the incorporation of natural, locally sourced materials provide solutions that are contextually adapted to the climate and cultural identity of regions such as Monterrey, the capital of Nuevo Leon. This approach not only mitigates environmental degradation but also revalorizes artisanal craftsmanship, strengthens the circular economy, and reinforces community identity. Consequently, design is positioned as a transformative tool with the capacity to drive both social and cultural change.
