Objective. Determine the validity of sacroiliac index to diagnose clinic sacroiliitis.
Material and methods. A study with diagnostic test design was done in male patients with a range of age between 18 and 85 years old, diagnosed with prostate cancer that came to our department for a bone scan. The patients who presented bone
metastases in pelvis were excluded. The sample of 35 patients was calculated using a difference of proportions formula. Clinical stress maneuvers were performed on the sacroiliac joints to determine the clinical
diagnosis. It was performed an ordinary bone scan with calculation of sacroiliac index to diagnose sacroiliitis.
Results. With the data obtained the sensibility and specificity was estimated in
83.3% and 82.8%, respectively. The positive predictive value was of 45.4%, however, it was calculated a negative predictive value of 96.6%
Conclusion. The study carried out proves the validity of the sacroiliac index by bone
scan to diagnose sacroiliitis finding a high negative predictive value which allows to discard sacroiliitis in patients with high suspicion after the physical examination was performed.
