Obesity has multifactorial origins and is defined as the abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat, which can be harmful to health. This problem, currently affects the world population, which is why institutions and organizations have focused on this issue to counteract it. Likewise, there is a large amount of scientific evidence that has demonstrated the relationship between the genetic factors of a person and the presence of overweight or obesity. Among the genetic factors there are certain polymorphisms that have been previously studied in specific populations, but not yet in the Mexican population.
According to the ENSANUT MC 2016, the Mexican adult population over 20 years of age has a combined prevalence of overweight and obesity of 72.5%, (Nutrición N.C., 2016). Currently, in the Mexican population there are few validated studies in association with obesity due to the genetic complexity of this population, therefore in this thesis it was studied two genetic factor related in other scientific studies with the prevalence of obesity. These genetic factors were the polymorphisms in the RNF144A gene, associated with tumor suppression, and in the TAS1R2 gene, associated with the sweet taste receptor.
For the study, a series of steps were taken to a significant sample of 360 people, which include, peripheral venous blood collection, the realization of a food consumption frequency test and a small hered family history, as well as an anthropometric interpretation. This in order to determine the levels of triglycerides, glycosylated hemoglobin, body composition and total consumption of calories and macronutrients; with the proposal to validate a method of classification of corporate phenotypes and identify the relationship of previously defined genetic markers with the Mexican population.
A tendency of polymorphisms associated with obesity and preference for certain food groups with the same allele was demonstrated. It was not statistically shown since the sample was divided for convenience.
