Abstract
This application relates to a railway wheel monitoring system and method.
The system and method are used to monitor railway wheels (5) and consist of the following operations:
Obtaining images of the railway wheels (5) using stereo cameras (8 and 9).
Generating three-dimensional (3D) and two-dimensional (2D) models of the railway wheels (5) based on these images.
The 2D model undergoes contour analysis (18) of the railway wheels (5), allowing the 2D model to be compared with the 2D model of an ideal wheel, thereby measuring the effective wear of the wheel's contour.
The 3D model undergoes surface analysis (19) of the railway wheels (5), allowing the 3D model to be compared with the 3D model of an ideal wheel, thereby measuring the effective wear of the wheel's surface (3).
