Abstract

The radical importance of the media in today's society requires a sincere and in-depth discussion of the most important aspects in the exercise of the profession, recognizing what the main purpose of journalism is, and how it can promote social development from a comprehensive humanistic perspective. The study collects the different documents, comments and reflections by the Catholic Church in the field of social communication, which have evolved at the same rate as new communication models and vehicles have appeared in our society; highlighting the fundamental aspects for the development of the information society; such as ethics, the promotion of human dignity, the values ​​of social life, the defense of freedom, the search for truth and the promotion of justice; The development of info-ethics in the field of virtual communication and in the humanization of digital communication in the face of the vertiginous advance of social networks is also considered; taking as a starting point respect for the cultural diversity of peoples and the accelerated advance of globalization and social development.
