Abstract

The objective of this article is to investigate about the role of higher
education institutions in promoting social sustainability. A documentary review of different work on the social dimension of sustainability was carried out to know how the universities are involved in social
sustainable practices. It is concluded that this dimension is the least addressed in universities and is partly due to the absence of a single or
general definition of its meaning. Nevertheless, there are six convergent
elements, which can be translated into guiding principles that can be
used to plan and develop strategies and promoting social sustainability
in academic spaces.
