Abstract

According to Shingo Model, in order to have sustainable results, an organization should define ideal behaviors in each of its working systems, as continuous improvement projects (CIPs), which include Kaizen events, Lean Six Sigma, Six Sigma, and Quality Improvement. The application of CIPs in hospitals is relatively new, and some investigations suggested that they are having problems achieving CIPs initial results or sustaining CIP results. Although previous investigations have been conducted about critical success factors (CSFs) for CIPs in hospitals; to author's knowledge, there is a lack of investigations focused to define ideal behaviors related to CIPs. As a first step to conduct a large investigation on CIPs ideal behaviors in hospitals; .the purpose of this investigation is to define a set of ideal behaviors for Kaizen events in hospitals, In order to achieve this goal, a systematic literature review was conducted, extracting 175 publications mentioning CSFs for CIPs in hospitals; 16 out of these 175 publications were focused only on Kaizen events in hospitals. A list of 95 sentences related to CSFs for Kaizen events in hospitals was collected and classified into 35 CSFs and 29 ideal behaviors. Kaizen leaders/facilitator could use this information to improve Kaizen event effectiveness.
