Industrial design and its relationship with the humanities in the construction of an inclusive and plural artificial world

Currently more than 50% of the planet's population lives in urban areas, and trends indicate that this percentage will reach almost 70% in 2050, which implies a large concentration of people in a relatively small geographic space that compete - in smaller or greater measure- for resources, space and opportunities; At the same time the aging of the population is a recurring situation in most countries, especially in Europe, Asia and North America. By combining these two situations, an immediate future is visualized, in many cases already tangible and frequent, where older people actively participate in society, and not only in social or recreational activities, but must remain active in the labor market, and in the constant competition for resources and increasingly scarce opportunities in many cities. Given this perspective, industrial design, as one of the author disciplines of the artificial world, has the responsibility of responding to these situations where the person (the user) is faced with an increasing limitation of their capacity due to the natural passage of time , and also a competition where just their abilities become a critical factor. The humanities are extremely important in the construction of an inclusive artificial world, because when these two disciplines are linked, the design solutions generated from interdisciplinary are inclusive and plural, of greater wealth and versatility, and capable of facing present and future social trends of modern life.
