Forms of discrimination in Nuevo León. Intercultural communication and indigenous political participation

With 352,222 people who self-identify as indigenous, adding up 59,196 claims to be indigenous language speakers, the state of Nuevo León is one of the states in Mexico with the largest influx of indigenous population in recent years. In
that sense, the inclusion of indigenous communities in a migration context will not only respond to instrumental terms regard- ing the mechanisms of political participation, but also to the particularities that are inscribed in the relationship of indigenous people with various political actors. For that, this article, from a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with political actors and focus groups with indigenous people, aims to know how intercultural communication occurs between the actors involved in the respect, promotion and guarantee of rights of indigenous people in Nuevo León, especially the rights of political participation. Besides, an exploratory analysis of the relationship and forms of communication between four types of political actors is carried out: Government, CSO, Political Parties, Human Rights Institution and indigenous people in the entity.
