Abstract

Over the years, the ideal vehicle has been sought
to mix Ca(OH)2 and place it as an intracanal me-
dicament. The characteristics of the vehicles can
determine the ionic dissociation that causes the
paste to be solubilized and reabsorbed. Aim of
the study: Recognize based on existing literature
the pH of Ca(OH)2 pastes mixed with different
vehicles to determine which vehicle maintains
a more alkaline pH. Material and methods: An
exhaustive search was carried out in different da-
tabases and the pH of Ca(OH) 2 mixed with dif-
ferent vehicles was evaluated. Results: 81 articles
were found, 28 of which met the inclusion cri-
teria. The pastes that showed better results while
maintaining a more alkaline pH were propylene
glycol, distilled water and 2% chlorhexidine with
zinc oxide. Conclusion: Propylene glycol is like
it preferred to be used, maintaining a stable and
alkaline pH, thus helping in an effective disinfec-
tion of the root canal syste
