Educator Perspectives on GenAI: a Preliminary Examination in Mexican Higher Education Settings

The intention to enhance teaching and learning processes through the application of tools such as Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is now under the scope of many higher education institutions (HEIs). By examining faculty acceptance and use of this technological tool provides beneficial perspectives regarding the conditions required for a successful application. Our study measured the acceptance and use of GenAI through a survey applied to 208 faculty members at a private university in Mexico. The dimensions Perceived usefulness, Perceived ease of use, Attitudes toward use, Subjective norm, and Behavioral intention, were assessed to understand the adoption of this technology. Behavioral intention received the highest values and Subjective norm the lowest. Thus, we found a moderate, positive correlation between the acceptance of GenAI and the generation of text. The levels identified in acceptance among faculty provide expectations for a promising future where these tools integrate into learning and teaching practices. Additionally, these findings urge further research on student use of GenAI and the impact of faculty training.
