Abstract

DivYX is a cognitive video analysis tool which allows the user to study the kinematics of digitally recorded physical phenomena. It was initially developed run under the Windows XP platform and then extended to the latest Microsoft operating systems. After many upgrades, its third release is now a web based application making it accessible for both Microsoft and Apple users. Since no files have to be downloaded nor special libraries have to be present, it now has the advantage of having fewer restrictions making it more accessible and universal. Its usability and functionality have been improved using the
latest web browser tools. To start the analysis, the user just drags and drops the video to the software´s window and it is ready to begin. Afterwards DivYX 3.0 runs the video in determined time steps letting the user to mark the 2-dimensional coordinates of the specified object in the specific moments. Both the frame of reference and the size of the object can be redefined and the coordinates will be automatically recalculated. It also has a zoom tool, which allows more precise measurements. Finally, the generated data can be
downloaded as a Microsoft Excel file extending possibilities for data analysis.
