Abstract
Migrants in irregular situations often face
more and greater health risk factors than
the general population. In addition, they
suffer limited healthcare assistance.
After reviewing the legal framework
of the human right to healthcare recognized by Mexico, a qualitative analysis
was carried out on the actual application
of human rights for irregular migrants in
the state of Nuevo León.
A case study research was executed and
nine individual case studies were reviewed.
The general objective was to identify
the actual conditions in which the right to
healthcare for irregular migrants is exercised.
Due to the importance of access to
healthcare by the segments of the population in situations of mobility who suffer
from high social vulnerability, we focus our
analysis with respect to the principle of
accessibility that every healthcare system
must comply with.
This exploratory work identifies some
limitations and barriers in the execution
of the four dimensions that comprise the
principle of accessibility (economic, physical, informative and non-discriminatory).
Finally, some points of reflection are
outlined so that migrants can better enjoy
their right to healthcare from a human rights perspective.
