Abstract

The advancement of digitalization has been the great qualitative and quantitative leap forward in architecture in recent years, becoming a benchmark in the way buildings are generated, conceived, and created, both in their technical dimension and in their aesthetic considerations. In addition, it delves into the spatial, functional, and formal aspects of architectural design. This work addresses the topic of technology in architectural design processes, taking a theoretical and conceptual journey through various digital technologies and mechanisms, such as CAM, BIM, digital modeling, rendering, digital manufacturing, virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence. Added to this is a compendium of reflections on the present and future of architecture, pointing out contributions, risks, and considerations regarding the various digital avenues in which architectural projects can be developed. To this end, a series of software are proposed that allow readers to learn about and choose the best digitization options. The work of the architect is placed at the center of the discussion, considering the technological skills and contemporary nature of the profession, as well as its role as a social agent and agent of change, capable of generating designs and building comprehensive spaces through the exercise of digital design.
