Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on coexistence and human interactions, which led to the growth of digital communication as a mechanism for maintaining social relationships. The Religion did not escape health demands and had to adapt to the technological scenario. Pope Francis, for his part, as a public figure and religious reference, used unconventional forms and methods in his communication during the so-called lockdown. This descriptive study addresses communication and exposure public address of the pontiff during confinement, identifying the recipients of the pope's message from a global and comprehensive vision in different groups and social sectors. The research addresses the presence of the topic of the coronavirus as a central argument in speeches given, and the characteristics of the exhibition public amid social distancing restrictions, from a communication perspective.
