Composition technology trade balance: An empirical analysys on Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Perú

This article analyses the behavior of international trade in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru. The goods traded were grouped according to their technological composition, based on Pavitt (1984) typology. Through technological specialization indicators of exports and imports it was verified that products contribute positively or negatively to the trade balance and which exported goods have worldwide comparative advantages. The results showed that products with low-technology composition hold the trade balance under the scheme of inter-industry trade, present-ing worldwide comparative advantages.
