Abstract
In Public International Law, exams usually include conceptual questions as well as hypothetical practical cases. Without previous experience, working with practical cases results in a superior intellectual challenge and requires extra time in putting concepts into practice. In light of the above, firstly this piece explores four dilemmas that students face regarding practical cases that involve Public International Law: to identify the topic, to select the international norms to apply, to justify the answer, and to complement with jurisprudence or doctrine arguments. Secondly, this article proposes a three-step didactic model to support students in solving the dilemmas: to teach how to work with practical cases, to work in class and to evaluate students’ performance.
