An architecture-oriented agile approach for driving organizational change

The complexities inherent to the demands of today’s organizations directly impact their management, since the ability to continually adapt to changes in their environment is a necessity for competitiveness. The management of a change project due to such a demand depends on the requirements that it must meet and how profoundly these requirements impact organizational elements such as goals, processes, technologies, and people. Moreover, as the interests of stakeholders trigger the requirements of a change project, it is essential that changes be made dynamically and with flexibility, for a rapid adaptation and delivery of value to stakeholders to be possible, thus ensuring greater adherence to the desired results and engagement of those involved in the project, as well as its continuity. To address these issues, this work proposes an architecture-oriented agile approach for driving organizational changes, in form of a procedure composed of 5 phases. This work details the underlying theory upon which the procedure is based: the VUCA framework, enterprise architecture (Archimate language) and agile methods (SCRUM), and then, details the phases of the procedure, showing they are operationalized. It also argues how the procedure is aligned to the critical success factors presented in recent literature on change management.
