Resumen

To explain the interaction of factors that influence the role of parents in the prevention of HPV in adolescents, a theoretical substruction of the Meleis Transition middle-range theory (2000) was performed using the Dulock and Holzemer method. An essential part of the analysis consisted of identifying the nature of the transition. The role of parents was an evolutionary transition with multiple patterns and as a critical point the perception of parents that their child had a boyfriend, if they believed that their child had a boyfriend, or if their child had started an active sex life. Later, substructions of the concepts related to the conditions of transition (facilitators or inhibitors), response patterns, and outcome indicators were described. To explain this interaction through a model aids in having a broader vision of how the protective function of parents can be affected by personal and social elements and how these factors interact to play a protective role. This is very important because health personnel can establish more precise prevention strategies with more positive results.
