The consequences of Climate Change have increased in the past few decades due to anthropogenic activities affecting all countries. However, even though every country presents a level of vulnerability to consequences like natural disasters, the degree of affectation varies between countries due to social, economic, and geographic factors.
In this sense, México is one of the most vulnerable countries to Climate Change due to its geographic position, socio-economic conditions, and adaptation capabilities. Not only does it suffer climate inequality between other countries, but inside of the country too, between its regions.
For this reason, this research seeks to address the problem of socio-economic vulnerability and adaptability to the effects of climate change in different regions of Mexico. Adaptation strategies were developed taking into account the different socioeconomic context between three regions (North, Center, South) and its prevailing natural disaster. In the south, Oaxaca with landslides; in the northern region, Chihuahua with water stress and finally in the center, Mexico City with floods. As a first step of the methodology, a vulnerability to the climate crisis of each region was carried out, followed by the selection of states, depending on its climatic consequence, region, and Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Once each climatic consequence was contextualized, a strategic adaptation plan was developed, ranging from small facilities such as retaining walls, structural systems, and even wastewater treatment plants. The final step of the methodology will be the creation of indicators and projection scenarios to the year 2050 with the proposed improvements.
