Nanolubricants development for tribological performance on gear components

    Student thesis: Master's Thesis

    Abstract

In this work, titanium dioxide nanoparticles dispersed trough the gear lubricant to improve tribological properties for gear components have been studied. In order to prepare this nanolubricant; nanoparticles were dispersed by ultrasonic probe and bath with different concentrations of TiO2. The tribological properties was investigated by 4 ball tribotester to select the best Poz, then the selected concentration and base oil were tested in Pin on Disk tribotester to get frictional force and mass loss values to calculate COF and Wear reduction. These results demonstrated that the best TiO2 concentration is 0.01 wt % dispersed in gear lubricant, that being enhanced COF and wear reduction by 25% and 30% respectively.
