Abstract

One of the main functions of the media is the construction of reality through the re-view and description of events. The Venezuelan conflict, due to the characteristics of the country, has political implications throughout the continent, starting with the disavowal of the 2018 presidential elections, which produced, in addition to a deep economic crisis, the most important migratory movement in Latin America in recent years. For its part, the Holy See has played a mediating role in the conflict, being a voice heard in the concert of nations, not only through the diplomatic exercise, but also with what is reported in its media. The research of analytical type approached 295 editions of L’Osservatore Romano, during 2018, in its daily and evening version in Italian, in which 198 journalistic notes on Venezuela were found, with the purpose of specifying the journalistic narrative of the crisis in the headlines of the news. The objectives of the study were: to identify the grammatical features of the headlines in the news coverage and to point out the types of headlines used. The study showed that the informative content was the most used in the grammatical features, with the use of verbs in active voice that kept the topic at the forefront of the editorial decision and management, and there was no presence of speech acts, by not quoting textual statements of those involved in the conflict, in the headlines of the journalistic notes
