Abstract

Diabetes mellitus, according to the Organization World Health Organization-WHO (2020, para. 1), is "a disease chronic condition that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body does not use insulin effectively which produces The effect of uncontrolled diabetes is hyperglycemia (increased blood sugar).” This same organization indicates that the registration of premature deaths in the world increased by 5% in the period from 2000 to 2016. And in 2016 he warns that it has been the primary cause for there to have been in 2016 the death of 1.6 million
people for this reason.
On the other hand, with scientific advances in diagnosis of this disease has been observed as
the current trend has gradually increased and It is expected that by 2025 the figure will reach values of 300 million people with this condition (Llanes, Arrieta and
Mora, 2006). In Mexico, according to the calculations shown
in the National Survey of Health and Nutrition-ENSANUT 2012,
In Mexico, there were more than 6 million adults with this health problem. In which case the treatment for diabetes mellitus entailed in 2011 a cost "about $8,000 thousand pesos per person per year, so for 2012 they required
approximately $48,000 billion pesos for the management
of this condition” (Fundación Mídete, 2016, p. 25).
The repercussions of this disease affect health of the individual, the family context, their productive participation in society and therefore the economy destined to health in a country is affected, since the expenses not only reflect the current pathology, but also include the complications that result from the same. Among these we have retinopathy, nephropathies, neuropathies, kidney involvement, erectile dysfunction, diabetic foot
and the impact on oral health. Therefore, an early detection of this health problem could be controlled by taking
the necessary measures for the diagnosis since the presentation
like prediabetes. In this sense, Llanes, Arrieta and Mora (2006,
p. 401), comment that prediabetes “refers to the period in which
in which the patient is not yet diabetic, but is at high risk of
to be”. In this sense, the American Diabetes Association-ADA
states that the presence of a large number of subjects with figures
high glycemic, non-diabetic, but with a risk 86 increased risk of developing the disease: they may present glucose intolerance (ITG) and/or basal glycaemia altered (GBA). Both categories are classified as prediabetes (Llanes, Arrieta and Mora, 2006, p. 400).
Therefore, we have considered it pertinent to investigate
an apparently healthy working population that works in the
line of manufacturing and distribution of floors, walls, porcelain, ceramics and natural stone, in order to assess the prevalence of prediabetes and establish whether there is an association with nutritional status
