Abstract
The macromolecules that make up our body, such as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids, are responsible for carrying out vital processes for our survival. The study of these molecules, their functions and alterations is fundamental in the degree of medicine.
The Laboratory Practices Manual of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics is intended to involve the student in the realization of laboratory techniques, which allow to reinforce the understanding of concepts learned in the subject of cellular and molecular biology. To do this, basic biosecurity principles will be studied, as well as the knowledge of laboratory material and equipment, as well as the preparation of solutions, basic concepts in any biological laboratory.
The macromolecules present in the cell membrane have functions such as recognition, transport or anchoring. Some are even responsible for defining the blood group. In this manual, different practices are exposed, among them, one referring to extraction of venous peripheral blood, determination of blood group and compatibility tests or cross-tests.
Within the nucleus is the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), which possesses the genetic information of an individual. In recent years, useful techniques have been developed and perfected for the analysis of this molecule (determination of mutations or genetic changes related to syndromes or diseases). This manual includes practices that range from the extraction of DNA from a blood sample, analyzing its quality and quantity, to the realization of techniques that allow working with specific fragments of DNA and the search for mutations.
We hope that this work is to your liking and use.
