Abstract

The automotive industry is the driving force of nations
and keeping it competitive is crucial. The present research study has the objective to contribute with a measurement instrument for manufacturing competitiveness of
the automotive industry (MCAI). It shows the case of an
emerging economy such as Mexico, for Tier 1 automotive parts suppliers of the state of Nuevo Leon. Furthermore, the main objective is defined by the constructs which
are supported by an exhaustive literature review resulting
in the factors which measure the MCAI. These factors
are product innovation, information technology (IT) and
process technologies. This study shows two tests performed for this instrument: the validation of the content as
well as the reliability test done through Cronbach’s alpha
statistical analysis. Each of these constructs were tested
and the results obtained demonstrated that the proved
elements of innovation and technologies are reliable to
measure the MCAI
