Abstract

Introduction: prediabetes is characterized by increased blood glucose, using the glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) (5.7 to 6.4%) for its diagnosis (Diabetes Care, 2019) (Campuzano, G et al, 2010). The prevalence of pre-diabetes makes it possible to prevent DM2 and its complications. The increased waist-hip ratio indicator is associated with this condition (Hernández, J. et al, 2018). Objective: To analyze the association between the prevalence of pre-diabetes and waist-hip ratio in apparently healthy working population of a company in Nuevo Lion. Methodology: following normative ethical guidelines. 210 workers from both sexes (18 - 65 years), apparently healthy (without a diagnosis of chronic disease). I know evaluated the waist-hip ratio with the Inbody bioimpedance equipment Ⓡ after measuring height and waist circumference with standardized technique (ISAK). In addition, samples were taken from venous blood to assess HbA1c. Statistical verification was done with SPSS software version 25, performing Student's T tests and one-way ANOVA for samples of normal distribution. Results: there is no significant relationship between the prevalence of pre-diabetes and waist-hip ratio (p> 0.05). However, 22% of the workers had percentages elevated HbA1c and 96.2%, presented moderate and high cardio-metabolic risk, according to relationship waist-hip (Yusuf et al, 2005). Therefore, the greater the amount of visceral fat, the HbA1c values, showing an association between visceral fat, waist-hip ratio and cardio-metabolic risk. Conclusion: visceral fat has an effect that influences HbA1c, that deserves more evidence.
