Abstract

Mexico’s commercial opening through free trade agreements and/or treaties has increased studies of commercial relations. The objective of this study was to analyze the commercial integration and commercial exchange of the electrical - electronic industry of Mexico during the period 2001 - 2022. Therefore, for commercial integration, five free trade agreements and/or treaties were selected with which Mexico immediately or progressively eliminates customs duties on the tariff items of Chapter: 85 - Electrical and electronic machinery. Regarding trade exchange, the Grubel-Lloyd index, the revealed comparative advantage index and the product complexity index were used. Therefore, a panel data model was estimated by country and tariff item to infer the trade exchange relationship. The results by country and tariff item for electrical and electronic machinery reveal that in the period 2001 – 2022, trade is mainly intra industrial, with a comparative advantage and with a lower level of product complexity. It is concluded that the tariff items of electrical and electronic machinery of the countries that make up the free trade agreements and/or treaties, intra-industrial trade predominates.
