Personal profile

Research interests

  • Using a combination of personal and professional skills to approach science with a holistic view is a cornerstone interest. Consequently, my teaching philosophy is to use knowledge management to innovate in education, emotional intelligence, neurocognition, problem-based learning, flipped classroom, imaginative learning, research-based learning, learning outside the classroom, design of instruments, psychometrics, etc. Thus, building a networking system based on teams for open innovation hubs by management of the Penta Helix innovation is a primal priority to enhance the technology transfer, citizen science projects, circular economy, development and improvement in the value chain, clean industry practices, and international accreditations. Likewise, drivers such as a network of collaborations for interdisciplinary subjects, organizational theory, complexity theory, and lifelong learning and active education are essential elements to make a synergy effect to develop competencies in people for obtaining better results, but more importantly, for pursuing disruptive knowledge innovations.

  • Microelectronic materials and micromachining techniques for fabrication of micro and nano structures (microfabrication), microelectronic devices, electroosmosis, dielectrophoresis, magnetophoresis, digital microfluidics (micro/nanofluidics), electrowetting, photoelectrowetting, electrochemical sensors, electrochemical instrumentation of embedded systems for programmable-system-on-a-chip applications.

  • Lab-on-a-chip, organ-on-a-chip, single cell analysis, drug delivery, sensing and detection of species of clinical interest. Electrochemical power sources, energy storage conversion applications, microbial fuel cells, flow batteries, batteries, supercapacitors, photovoltaics, microbial electrolysis cells, and green hydrogen production.

  • Certifications, legislation, and public policies on pollution and the environment, hazardous waste management, desalination, electronic equipment waste management, electrochemical soil remediation, sensing and detection of species of environmental interest, and removal technologies for emerging pollutants (pharmaceuticals and textile dyes) in wastewater, such as advanced oxidation processes, heterogeneous photocatalysis, and fenton reactions, among others.

  • Electrodeposition techniques such as: electroless deposition, electrophoretic deposition, electrodeposition by using protic ionic liquids, electrodeposition with particulate suspensions (complex fluids), deposition by scanning bipolar cell among others to construct advanced materials with optical, electronic, or magnetic properties for different applications in energy technologies, semiconductors, and health.

  • Design of electrochemical technology in energy storage conversion applications, development of technology for improving the environment and health with electrochemical principles and chemical engineering in processes, scaling analysis, system dynamics, and development of mathematical modelling for electrochemical systems in conjunction with transport phenomena.
