Personal profile

Laura Peña Parás has worked as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Electronics Engineering at University of Monterrey since 2010, and she has professional experience as a Materials Engineer at Jacobs Engineering from 2008 to 2010. She completed her undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Monterrey and graduated as CUM LAUDE. She pursued her doctoral studies in Materials Science at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Her areas of expertise are nanotechnology and advanced materials for the metal-mechanical industry. She has been recognized as a National Level II Researcher by the National System of Researchers of CONAHCYT. She has international publications and patents, as well as participation in national and international conferences. In recognition of her development of a project that applies nanotechnology to lubricants to reduce wear in industrial machinery, MIT Technology Review distinguished her as one of the "10 best innovators in Mexico" in 2013. She holds the Machinery Lubrication Technician MLT I certification from the International Council for Machinery Lubrication (ICML). She is part of the permanent interactive exhibition "Interdisciplina" at the Papalote Museo del Niño Monterrey, inaugurated in 2018. She recently received the "Pro Magistro Roberto Garza Sada" Award for her outstanding teaching work at UDEM and the UDEM 2018 Research Career Award. She was awarded the 2019 Research Prize by the Mexican Academy of Sciences in the Engineering and Technology Area.
