Research interests

Dr. Diego Lozano de la Garza holds a degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, along with a master's and doctorate in materials engineering.

He has experience in the steel and aluminum industry, having worked in various companies in the automotive and petroleum sectors. Dr. Lozano has expertise in product engineering, processes, and quality. His skills encompass physical metallurgy, heat treatments, and mechanical fatigue. During his tenure at Nemak's research and development center, he designed and developed a laboratory equipoment for wear and friction testing. At Frisa, he served as a metallurgist and quality manager, overseeing the development of steel chemical compositions and heat treatments. While at Metalsa's Innovation Center, he worked as a materials development engineer.

Dr. Lozano has developed various technological equipment for materials testing, including a tribometer, different machines for rotary bending fatigue, a machine for mechanical fatigue testing of flat products (sheets), a laboratory system for heat treatments, an impact tester for the steel industry for automotive product validation, and a device for conducting in-situ fatigue tests in corrosive environments.

His research focuses on the fatigue performance of different metallic components and the impact of processing on the lifespan of materials and joints.

Currently, Dr. Lozano serves as the Director of Research at the University of Monterrey.
