Mechanical fatigue is one of the most common cause of material failure under cyclic loading. In this device, the materials are subjected to rotating bending with a constant deflection to obtain their fatigue response and the construction of S-N diagrams. Crack growth rate can be estimated by continuous data acquisition and modelling. A 1000N load cell is used to apply a fixed load, and it is continuously recorded to monitor crack nucleation and growth.
The effect of material processing like chemical composition, forming, heat treatment, surface finish, internal defects, microstructure, coatings, among others, can be evaluated under rotating conditions.
